Cars most and LEAST likely to pass MOT first time, according to recent data

Last month, there was some new data released by the Department for Transport in 2017 - which are the latest available - show not only the brands but the individual cars which are most likely to make the grade or miss out.

The data has shown which cars are most likely to pass and fail MOTs.

However, do bear in mind, that the figures do not take into consideration the MOT changes which were introduced in May last year which include new defect categories and stricter emissions.

But they should give a good indication of what success rates have been in the past.

During the research phase, they only measured the success rate of mainstream manufacturers that were between three and five years old.

Here are the brands most likely to pass an MOT:

1. Honda 93.8%

2. Porsche 93.2%

3. Subaru 92.8%

4. Lexus 92.6%

5. Toyota 91.5%

Here are the brands least likely to pass an MOT:

Worst first time pass rates

1. Chrysler 80.1%

2. Chevrolet 82.2%

3. Renault 82.5%

4. Citroen 84.4%

5. Alfa Romeo 84.9%

The Japanese made cars did well with four of the five best performing cars being made in that country.
